Fully upgrade the SRS. How & why?

This post will hopefully help you maximise the potencial of your SRS.

Tl:dr kitlist and link at the end of the post.

First off all we have to clear that what is an ‘upgrade’, it has to improve the function of your replica in some way and give you an advantage. It can be the effective range, accuracy, durability or even confort.

In most weapon platforms you actually NEED the upgrades just to reach basic function. However the SRS (and also Tac41) are fully capable sniper platforms out of the box with a spring change.

Than why you need upgrades? When everyone has a good rifle out of the box you need a better one and improve your skills. I can help you with upgrade the rifle, that is easy, but you have to work on your skills yourself.

Let’s begin with the cylinder area.

That part is the mitochondria of your SRS.
Have it performing flawlessly and stable is a key role in accuracy.

I personally use the Silverbck VMP piston paired with my Mousefart 2.0 piston head. It’s the same as the current red version, just old. The tuneable piston weight allows you to find the highest J on the BB weight you use, if you are doing it well you will be able to use a lot weaker spring to reach the J you desire. /There are a whole lot other factors involved, explain all would take a whole article./ The Mousefart 2.0 is the final version of my airbrake piston head. The brake is flexible rubber, so it will not break on the long run even if the nozzle bore is not drilled exactly centered, but always seal properly. A well tuned rifle can reach as low as 45db on 3J+ muzzle energy level with this piston head.

When you have a good piston head and a good suppressor, all the noise signature left is the annoying twang sound by the vibration of the spring. With my spring guide the V.R.A.G.2. you can adjust the thickness on the end of the spring guide, that elliminates vibration without additional friction on the guide.

With the cylinder and cylinder head all you got to do is teflon tape the thread connecting them, that thread is prone to cause airleak at higher pressure systems. Easy to solve just a turn of teflon tape… I forgot to take the photo, but also at the cylinder area I use the Silverback open sear. It is a great improvement, the seal this way catch the piston witouth additional effort on the bolt pull. That’s it for the cylinder area. You can find most of them here in my store except the original Silverback parts.

Let’s see the hopup are.

I have several type of chambers in use, my main setup is the stock one (YES), but I also use the FAST and Maxx SRE. All these compatible with my 101% seal, it is designed to fit just perfect in the SRS standard chambers and the lip area is tight to seal around the nozzle. 101% is flat inside, so in all cases matched with R-hop.

I know, setting up the stock chamber is weird and seems complicated first, but it really worth to get used to it. It’s accuracy has no match… Just think about it, the whole chamber is one single piece, no moving parts, no non matching pieces, and extremely simple. The only additional piece you need for it is the chamber spacer, it does not effect accuracy at all, but it makes the barrel positioned always in the center, it can save your inner barrel from damage during assembly.

My setup for the stock chamber is:

-101% seal

-R-hop

-Chamber spacer

As a side note, ditch the external adjusting screws, use the internal small grub screws instead. If you have to adjust, just have an allen key at hand, but if anything rubs against the external screws, your hop setting is gone…

My second in line of chambers is the FAST. You may know that, I took part in the development of this chamber. When I first got the SRS in 2016 I also found the stock chamber difficult, and begin to develop a rotary adjustment chamber. The whole point of that was convinient setting of the hop. With the FAST hop you get exactly that. In exchange, if you has less experience with assembling you may find it difficult to align properly. My addition to this is the F.O.W. nub, that is specialised to fit in the chamber perfect, no tilt, no shift, no cant. Keep in mind it’s designed to work best with r-hops.

My setup for the FAST chamber is:

-101% seal

-R-hop

-F.O.W. nub

My third choice of chambers is the Maxx SRE. You may find negative reviews of this chamber online, but the main problem is that it require extremely precise and carefull assembly. If you do it correctly it has great performance, but it is only a tad better than the FAST in exchange of way less user friendly assembly. Other than the rubbers and barrel it does not need anything additional.

My setup for the SRE chamber:

-101% seal

-R-hop

-4.5mm hop arm

In all cases I use my own 6.04 id barrels, that is kind of obvious tho.

The barrels in airsoft hase the worst improvement to cost ratio, but if you wan’t the maximal potencial, you can not skip that part.

In case of Silverback the original barrels are decent, if you want to improve you can’t choose a medium grade barrel.

I would like to add a side note, because I consider the BB the part of the hop are. If you buy good quality it’s great, but it does not give you much advantage, most of heavy BB on the market already good, regardless how BLS branded it. What actually gives you an advantage is adding a little more effort to it, and clean and sort them by 0.001gr. A jewellery scale is only a few bucks, and you can sort a whole bag in little more than an hour or so… If you think about how much effort, time and money we spend on this hobby, adding this little more is really not a big deal, even if it’s sound so.

This sums up how you can bring out all the potencial from your SRS. In theory you can apply the same concepts to all platforms.

Have fun building your own rifle and do not forget to work on your skills to match the rifle!
