This is a first use, disassembly, maitenance review, in a year or so I will make an updated version with the long term use, wear and updates if any happen until.
Externally we have a solid construction, everything is well made and fit, while ergonomics can be (and surely will be) foreign for most people, no issues with the quality at all. The upper is really nicely surface threated steel, will hurt a bit to paint it… The plastics are usual Silverback polymer works, nice and sturdy. No elephant in the room to mention, other than that like half meter long suppressor..
The disassembly is rather simple, we have two crosspins, pop them out and both the upper, handguard and stock comes down from the receiver, with a little fidgeting.
The receiver is beautifully made CNC alu, really well machined and surface threated, designwise it resembles the SRS system, with slight changes and improvements. The cylinder itself is guided by a huge steel roller which also connects it to the bolt handle assembly. I can not put enough emphasis on how much LIGHTER to load this system compared to the SRS, it’s due this guide system, the smoother surface threatment, the further forward bolt handle and the straight back motion of the hand while loading. Don’t get me wrong, loading a well tuned SRS is light with any J if you learnt the motion, but loading the VKS is LIGHT.
The barrel clamping is similar to the SRS receiver, mostly reminds me the A1 version, with an additional crosspin instead of the lock.
The trigger mech has the same function, but with CNCd pieces instead of the bent rod, also the preload of the sear is adjustable by a screw. Due to the cnages the trigger feels better than the SRS, slightly, 99% of people won’t notice.
Once you took everything off of the receiver, mostof internals remain captive, but the dust cover and hop nub moves freely. The new chanber is SRS like but with a TDC nub and a wheel on top to adjust. It’s pretty simple and accurate, but I need to put more time into it to properly judge (didn’t shot it over 100m yet at all)
You can install rotary hop chambers, like FAST or Maxx SRE if you prefer, the dust cover moves while loading so you can reach the chamber when cylinder is back, just like on SRS, also can check the chamber if BB is loaded. However if you install the dust cover up side down, it won’t move during loading, so it’s more effective as an actual dust cover, but can’t check the chamber.
The cylinder body, piston, spring, spring guide are backward and cross compatible with SRS, straight up lifted from that system, and compatible with my parts too, upgrade and setting them is similar process as the SRS was. However the actual assembly is a little more fidgety, but you should watch the videos of it on Silverback youtube chanel, they visually present everything pretty nicely.
Generally speaking this platform has the same or a little more potencial as the SRS has, IF you don’t count the suppressor. In my opinion it looks crazy good, and if you want it for the look get it with the long supp, but if you want to actually dig the bushes with it and want to do it effectively, get the half sized one. (I personally will display with the long and use with the shorter)
The most question I got about it was if it is worth it? And simpy put it really does… If you wan’t to snipe effectively, and into weird looking guns this is really really worth it, you can max out the potencial of airsoft sniping with it just like with the SRS.
