Full upgrade of the VKS

In the last DECADE we learned everything on how to bring out full potencial from an SRS, almost all those adaptable on the VKS platform.

In my previous post I shown you some tips and alsmost the full upgrade process, I dont wan’t want to press you to read that again so I will include most of the info and links here too, if you want take a look:

The very last step at the moment is an inner barrel, but it is also a good opportunity to check any wear on parts and clean internals again. I put a little over 1000 cycles in it, and there is no visible wear on the receiver, all I seen is some wear of the surface threatment on the sear, what is perfectly normal.

The cylinder area accepts the same parts as the SRS platform, in this case I deceided I won’t have a full VMP piston, instead I took a steel VMP body and used a leftover alu weight from my VMP kit, the total weight of the piston now is 90gr.

On the piston I installed the original sear end of the stock VKS piston, a Mousefart 2.0 piston head with spacer and a rear piston spacer. If you want to go the easy way, you can just pop on the CUP version of the Mousefart, it goes straight on the stock piston.

The spring guide is the V.R.A.G. adjustable spring guide, same as the SRS has, with 7 preload washers this this setup has 3.3J on .48 with Silverback 120N, once my barrel installed I will just remove some washers to keep the J at 3.3.

Here goes the very last piece I needed inside the VKS, a crisp new 6.04 inner barrel in 350mm. Interesting thing that if you use the full suppressor you can fit about ANY inner barrel on the market even the 730mm HTI inners, with the half supp you can fit a 22″ SRS one which is 578mm, in both cases the supressor still can do it’s job, but the 350mm is perfectly enough for any reasonable J level.

The hopup are is similar to the SRS chamber, while it is TDC, remains compatible with the stock chamber upgrades.

For the J and weather I use the 85° R-hop, with 101% seal rubber, later the year when temperature drops lower I will swap to 70° as usual. The chamber also acepts the Barrel Saver Spacer, while it does not improve perfomance at all, it is enough to only ONCE tighten the chamber screws assymetric, and the external barrel will force them right in the inner barrel, leaving it permanently damaged. That is out of stock at the moment, but it may will come back depending on the interest.

In the case of VKS, you can check if you installed the inner barrel correctly, before full assembly. Simply put the nub in and press in slightly while looking through the chamber. It will clearly show if your barrel is in right angle or not.

Using the same concept, adjusting it to your needs and options to fit the local rules and environment you can now pretty easy max out this platform internally.

For me the only thing left is some external bits, like a shorter supp and a proper scope to match it’s vibe.

While this concludes the full upgrade for the VKS at the moment, there will be some platform specific pieces coming for it in the future.

Stay tuned!

  1. May I ask did you prime the steel upper prior to painting it? I noticed on mine the slightly oily finish to keep the steel from rusting and I wondered if that would cause issues with paint adhesion

    1. Nope, I dont bother if the paint wears off quick, but mine didnt felt oily just smooth.
